If you look at WVU Athletic Department's annual income statements

then you will see under the "Revenues Collected" a category talking about support from the state. For their FY 2013 income statement it was called "Direct state/Institutional Support" for for their FY 2015 income statement it was called "Direct state or other government support."

Also, keep in mind I was just using it as an example of how WVU's financial situation could change that was either unexpected and/or beyond WVU's control. It is possible that WVU currently views any funds from the state as being insignificant and wouldn't lose any sleep if WVU started to receive less or none at all going forward. FWIW I believe all public universities must make their annual income statements available to the public, so a lot of universities will post them somewhere on their websites. I don't believe private universities have that same requirement, so it is up to the individual university to decide whether it wants to disclose it to the public or not.
